26.01.08 Well done Sam!!

Congratulations to Sam Fear our latest cadet to go solo the day after her 16th birthday (weather hampering the day itself!)  She was sent off solo by her dad Kev and towed up by mum Sheena!!  Brother David retrieved her on landing.  Pictures below:

2008 Fees

There have been some changes to the flying charges for 2008 to try to encourage more flying.  These include a 20% reduction on the 2nd launch for an individual on a given day, the price of the Astir is now 15p a minute and there are no glider charges for flights before 11 a.m.

23.12.07 Santa!

Santa (aka Dave Crowhurst) dropped in to fly the tug today!

This was before the fog rolled in and totally enveloped the airfield.  Fog was the order of the day too for New Year's day so '1st Jan' in the log book was ruled out (at Crowland anyway).

14.10.07 2 new BIs!

Congratulations to Dave Gilham and Nick White for successfully completing their Basic Instructor courses.

6-13.10.07 Aboyne Expedition!

A great time was had by all with Dave Crowhurst, Rob Theil and Sheena Fear finally achieving Diamond Height with climbs to 20,000ft.  Congratulations also to Al Flintoft for Gold height (twice, ran out of oxygen!!).  All in all a good week with great company, good food and plenty to drink, oh and the fishing wasn't bad either (approx 30 trout plus Glenice!!).  For pictures click here.

23.08.07 Various Achievements!!

Despite the weather delivered by a typical "British Summer" there are some achievements to report and these are listed on the Achievements page - well done to everybody.  In addition Graham Morris has just converted to an NPPL following a medical glitch and lay off for a few months.  As a result other tuggies are getting worried about lack of currency while he makes up for lost time!!!.

02.06.07 Well done Luke!!

Congratulations to our latest cadet, Luke, to go solo after being sent off by instructor Steve Crozier.  Here is a photo of him getting his wings from CFI Martin Ewer.

10.03.07 Congratulations Ross!!

Congratulations to our cadet Ross Morris who went solo on his 16th birthday.  Ross followed in the 'gliding footsteps' of his father Graham, and grandfather Vernon, and all under the watchful eye of newspaper crews!  Photos of him in action:

28.10.06 Well done Sam!!

Congratulations to our cadet Sam Breese, who has been flying with us on our cadet scheme for the last year or so, who has gone solo!  It was a great day for Brian Crowhurst too, the instructor who sent him off, as it was also his last instructional after many year's service to the Club.  Thank you Brian.

7-14.10.06 Aboyne Expedition!

Once again everyone had a great time.  No records were broken unless you count Matt Bell for the highest aerotow 6000ft (& therefore most expensive!!)  He wanted to be sure he was in the wave, the trouble was that the wave only went up to 6,500 that day!!   Food was up to its usual high standard, as were the fishing spoils and evening entertainment.  For pictures click here.

30.09.06 Thanks Jeff!

A social was held (any excuse!) to thank Jeff, the outgoing CFI, for all his efforts and hard work as CFI over the past few years.  Pictures below:

Congratulations to Glenn Rodrigues and Tracey who were married on 17th Sept 2006.  We wish them a very happy future together.

08.08.06 Phillip Wray to be Navy Pilot!

Congratulations to Phil who has been accepted in Britannia Royal Naval College in Dartmouth, Devon to train as a pilot for the Navy.  For link to ET article click here

20.12.05 December in Oz

Photos just received from Jim and Dave Crowhurst out in  Kingaroy, Australia:

18.12.05 New LS8!

Today saw the 1st flight of Adam Laws' new LS8.  Many 'green' faces looked on as it came out of the trailer and our Chairman's face showed even more disappointment when that's where it returned immediately after landing!!!  Better luck next time Robert!

06.12.05 JWE Banks

We have just heard that Billy Banks died peacefully in his sleep on 26th November aged 96 years.  It is through his love of gliding and flying that we moved to Crowland airfield some 35 years ago.  For further information on the club's history click here.

30.11.05 Ben gets his PPL!

We have just heard some more good news regarding one of our ex-cadets Ben Gilbert.  Ben has just completed his PPL following a sponsorship from the RAF.  Congratulations to him too!  Ben, who was previously on our cadet scheme, soloed in gliders about two years ago.

20.11.05 Craig & Sherida's Double!!

Congratulations to our two cadets Craig Toull and Sherida Hurst, who have been flying with us on our cadet scheme for the last year or so, who both soloed on the same day!

Here they both are with their instructors of the day - Dave Crowhurst (left) Robert Theil (right):

Sherida soloed on her 16th birthday,  the first girl within the Club to have done this!  To view BBC news article click here.  Watch the video here.

Pictures of her in action:

and after....

Craig who is 17 has previously soloed with the ATC in motor gliders but this was his 1st solo in a glider.

8-15.10.05 Aboyne Expedition!

Well a good time was had by all even though the Golds and Diamonds were pretty elusive once again.  The CFI held the height record achieving 14,000 ft and also got the highest score in the number of runways used!!  Just 'cos they build a new runway you don't have to land on it!!  Food was up to its usual high standard, lost count of the number of trout caught since they ended up putting them back.  As for the evening entertainment, since we have all mastered Graham's string trick over the years, Nick produced his own little box of goodies culminating in the "ring levitation"! To this day we are still trying to work it out!!  For pictures click here.

17.09.05 Congratulations - Pete & Annette!

Pete Goulding and Annette tied the knot on 17th September - congratulations to them both and thanks for a lovely day (even if it was distinctly soarable!!!) Well done also to Tony Fidler for 'getting her to the church on time'! Shame the best man couldn't have dished more dirt - as the groom's twin for how many years? there should have been plenty of ammunition!! Photos attached here:

03.09.05 2nd Flying Week

The weather was kind to us for our second flying week.  We flew every day and the only rain we had was on Wednesday evening when there was a spectacular storm which drove all but the hardy from their tents!!

Sylvia Sharman got her Silver height and Matt Bell has converted to the Astir.  Well done to them both!  Nick White has completed his cross country endorsement and now has a 1/2 share in the Cirrus 985.

30.07.05 Andy Solos!

On 30th July Andy Dodson, who has flown with us under our Cadet scheme in the last year, went solo at the age of 17.  Congratulations Andy! Pictures can be seen here:
